The challenge

Helium42 is an AI consultancy for UK businesses and a brand peppereffect runs with a partner. Its blog had been running since January 2025: 17 weekly AI news round-ups by the end of October. They earned almost nothing. In the 90 days to 13 March 2026 the site took 28 Google clicks at an average position of 17.4, and AI assistants referred 3 visits. The buyers Helium42 wants, construction firms and law practices asking how to use AI in their work, were putting exactly those questions to Google and ChatGPT. Helium42 was in none of the answers.

Key challenges included:
  • Articles written as news round-ups, not as answers to the questions buyers type.
  • Buyers researching AI tools inside ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, where a new brand has no footprint.
  • No in-house editorial team to publish at the volume the category demands.

Our strategy

We did not start with keywords. We started with the questions buyers in two verticals ask before they ever talk to a consultant: construction (estimating, quantity surveying, bills of quantities, design) and legal (drafting, research, tool selection). Every question became one page engineered to be quoted: the direct answer first, then the working detail, the tables and the sources an AI engine can lift into its own answer.

The switch came on 10 March 2026. In the rest of March the engine published more than 90 answer-first articles, 9 more followed in April, and about one a month since.

The solution

We installed the peppereffect content engine on Helium42. It researches, writes and verifies each asset through a 9-phase gated pipeline with 23 verification checks, and nothing goes live without a human gate.

Key elements of the solution included:
  • Question research across Google and the AI answer engines for each vertical.
  • Answer-first structure on every page, with comparison tables and step lists AI engines can quote.
  • Structured data (Schema.org) on every article.
  • Internal linking that ties each vertical into one topic cluster.
  • Visibility tracking in Google Search Console and AI-referral tracking in HubSpot.

The results

Helium42 Google clicks per month, December 2025 to September 2026

Five days after the first answer-first articles went live, on 15 March 2026, daily impressions jumped from under 100 to 682, and to 1,411 the day after. Clicks followed four weeks later. By May the site took over 1,000 clicks a month, and it has held between 1,390 and 1,574 a month from June to August.

Per 90 days, 14 Dec 2025 to 13 Mar 2026 against 28 Jun to 25 Sep 2026:
  • Google clicks: 28 to 4,209
  • Google impressions: 11,382 to 764,408
  • Average Google position: 17.4 to 10.3
  • Visits referred by AI assistants: 3 to 245

Construction content brought 2,979 of the 4,227 clicks that Search Console attributes to individual pages in the latest 90 days. The strongest single article, on free AI for construction estimating, earned 2,152 clicks at an average position of 8.6. 366 URLs earned impressions in that window, and 64 of them average a first-page position with at least 1,000 impressions.

The AI referrals are small in absolute terms: 245 visits, 3.4% of all visits in the latest 90 days. They still matter. HubSpot measured that leads from AI answers converted at 3 times the rate of its other sources (June to December 2025). Helium42's own sample, one contact from 245 AI-referred visits, is too small to say anything about conversion yet.

What the numbers do not show:
  • One article carries about half of the clicks. Without it, the site still grew from near zero to about 2,000 clicks per 90 days.
  • Impressions peaked in June (403,859) and ran at 197,126 in September to the 25th. Clicks held far better.
  • These are Google and HubSpot traffic numbers, not a tracked AI visibility share, and not revenue.
  • Helium42 is not an arm's-length client, so the conditions differ from a typical engagement.
